K2 Dome 6 on PE plates or concrete blocks

03 June 2024 Updates: Products

Did you know?

As true all-rounders, our K2 Dome 6 Classic and Classic LS flat roof systems feel comfortable on a variety of roof substrates. This also applies to gravel and green roofs. PE plates or concrete blocks are used here, to which the systems can be flexibly attached.

The PE plates have the advantage that the existing gravel can be used as ballast. Fastening the mounting system to concrete blocks, on the other hand, allows both uneven roofs and plant growth to be levelled out.

PE plates

Basics

If PE plates are used on gravel roofs, their trapezoidal geometry acts as a ballast tray. The existing gravel on the roof can be redistributed as ballast in the PE plate and the system can be embedded. This is an enormous advantage, especially on roofs with low load reserves!

The polyethylene base plates are available in 600x800mm and 800x600mm, the latter with the material option ‘EuCertPlast recycling-certified’.

Planning

When planning in K2 Base, a flat roof with material option gravel is chosen. The dumping height and the specific weight of the substrate then need to be specified.

Under the ‘Results’ tab, you can then select ‘PE plates’ as system variant. Based on the specified dumping height and weight, a ballast equivalent per PE plate is now calculated.  Finally, the required PE plates are automatically included in the bill of material.

Installation

Firstly, the existing gravel has to be carefully removed from the entire row of rails. The PE plates are then placed according to the K2 Base installation plan and fastened under the mounting rail with 4 self-drilling screws each. Finally, the formerly removed gravel is placed on the PE plates, where it now acts as ballast. Additional ballast may be required in some cases.

Concrete blocks

Basics

Concrete blocks are mainly used on green and gravel roofs, where they are screwed under the mounting system as ballast. They must have a minimum height of 50 mm. Because of the height advantage gained in this way, low green roofs can be smartly built over and the PV system can be harmoniously embedded in the existing roof ecosystem.

Need it even higher? For the lush roof jungle, we recommend the K2 GreenRoof Vento System.

Planning

When planning in K2 Base, a flat roof with material option green or gravel roof is chosen.

Under the ‘Results’ tab, you can then select ‘Concrete blocks’ as a system variant. Finally, the dimensions and weight of the concrete blocks to be procured on site are entered and the structural analysis is provided.

Installation

Firstly, the concrete blocks are pre-drilled for the concrete anchors (Heco MultiMonti or similar). A concrete block is then placed under each Dome SD and Dome Peak. These are fixed through the K2 BasicRail with concrete anchors. Additional ballast may also be required here.
