Connecting “the Länd”: D-Dome 6.10 on EnBW properties

Esslingen, Germany

Short distances, local value creation

Baden-Württemberg is a Southwestern German federal state, humoristically known as “Ländle” or “the Länd”.

For this project, our mounting system didn’t have to travel far but could instead stay in “the Länd”. From Renningen, the journey took us to nearby Esslingen am Neckar. A total of 443 kWp PV power was installed on the roofs of the training center, vehicle hall and parking garage of EnBW subsidiary Netze BW by the Services division of  Netze BW. Local value creation at it’s best!

PV-crown for „goldie“

One of the buildings got nicknamed “goldie” by EnBW due to its sand-gold color. Completed in 2019, it houses the training and grid control centers of Netze BW.

Now goldie was crowned with PV: A total of 1136 PV modules were installed on the gravel and green roofs with our allrounder K2 D-Dome 6.10 system. The system was planned, designed and built by Netze BW’s Services division. Thanks to the double-sided elevation, the number of modules per roof could be significantly increased compared to the single-sided version. Apart from the optimized use of the roof area, the aerodynamic shape of the D-Dome system requires less ballast for fixing. A win-win situation!

Connecting Strength in the Solar Cluster

Both EnBW and K2 Systems are members of the Solar Cluster Baden-Württemberg.

The initiative has been active since 2012 on behalf of regional companies from all parts of the solar value chain, such as module, inverter and mounting system manufacturers, as well as municipal utilities and research institutes. The main objectives are to raise public awareness of the industrial-political and economic importance of solar energy and to actively help develop the legal framework for further expansion.

Our partner

With around 28,000 employees, EnBW is one of the largest energy companies in Germany and Europe. It supplies around 5.5 million customers with electricity, gas, water as well as services and products in the areas of infrastructure and energy. As part of its realignment from a traditional energy supplier to a sustainable infrastructure company, the expansion of renewable energies and the distribution and transmission grids for electricity and gas are cornerstones of EnBW’s growth strategy and the focus of its investments. From 2023 to 2025, EnBW will invest around €14 billion gross, mainly in the accelerated implementation of the energy transition. By the end of 2025, more than half of EnBW’s generation portfolio is to consist of renewable energies, and the aim is to phase out coal by the end of 2028. These are key milestones on the company’s path to climate neutrality in 2035.

Netze BW Services division, a subsidiary of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, is an expert in secure and future-proof infrastructure solutions, digitalization, communication and security as well as in projects relating to the energy and mobility transition. As an expert in the field of photovoltaics for C&I, the company supports customers in the energy transition and assists them in the project implementation. The holistic approach includes strategic consulting, economic analysis, feasibility studies, implementation and technical operational management.
Netze BW was awarded the German Sustainability Award 2024 by the German government.
