Harvesting Kuwait’s sunlight: Triangle system for self-consumption

03/10/2022 Ahmadi Governorate, Kuwait

Connecting Strength in the Gulf Region

Kuwait has set the ambitious target of 15 percent renewable energy share by 2030 in order to diversify its enery mix which is still completely reliant on fossil fuels. (IEA)

In this scenario, the PV sector is an important pillar with high potential due to the favourable solar values in the whole MENA region.

„We are pleased that we could support our partner Clenergy MENA in making a step futher towards a more sustainable energy mix.“, says Mouhannad Sweiss, Sales Manager MENA at K2 Systems.

As a result of this cooperation, the Admin Building of the Marine Agency Branch in Ahmadi Governorate was successfully equipped with a 43.86 kWp PV system for self-consumption.

Connecting material – safe and easy with MultiMonti

To install the 102 modules on the flat roof, a triangle system with 15° module tilt in portrait orientation was chosen. As a first step, the aluminium L-profiles of the triangle were fixed on concrete blocks. We used MultiMonti concrete screw anchors which neither need plastic wedges nor additional chemical anchoring. These certified screw anchors are driven directly into pre-drilled holes where they are immediately loadable. The ease of installation of the MultiMonti anchors contributed to a fast installation, which was appreciated by Clenergy MENA and the whole project team. As module rail, our multi-talented SolidRail was connected on top of the triangles in order to clamp the 102 Canadian Solar modules in a single row portrait orientation towards the south.

Good timing: The PV system was realized immediately after the roof completion of this new construction building, which guaranteed a smooth process.

Our solution for the MENA region

Mounting triangle solutions on top of concrete blocks is a common installation practice in the MENA region. Hereby, the elevated ballast values needed in those high wind load zones do not need to be placed on top of the rails but instead can be put under the system in form of concrete blocks. Consequently, low obstacles on the roof do no longer constitute a problem but can be easily built over.
