Project details:
Located on Dachstein, Styria’s highest mountain at 2,995 metres, ski operations were discontinued in the winter of 2022/23 due to changing climate conditions. As part of the reopening of the more than 50-year-old mountain station, extensive renovation and modernization measures were carried out. Under the concept of the “Energy Crystal”, the facility underwent a comprehensive transformation, both inside and out.
A key element of the project is the photovoltaic system, which supplies up to 80% of the mountain station’s energy demand. Nearly 300 solar modules were installed on the east and west façades using the K2 WallPV system. At an altitude of 2,700 metres, the site offers ideal conditions for highly efficient solar power generation, benefiting from intense solar radiation and cool operating temperatures.
At the same time, the installation in this high-alpine environment presented significant challenges. Wind speeds of up to 200 km/h, heavy snow loads, and complex logistics made the construction site one of the highest and most demanding in Austria.
