1.5 MWp system for Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG

01/09/2022 Grafenhausen, Germany

The 9,000 m2 system generates 1.5 MWp for Rothaus, Germany’s highest brewery. The system is spread over several roof surfaces with different roof coverings and properties:

Some areas of the flat roof required a customised special solution consisting of the SingleRail as a composite rail with the BasicRail and the Dome 6.10 Peak for elevating the modules.

The modules were clamped on the long side, which is why this mounting can be described as a kind of "D-Dome 6.10 Classic LS variant".

On the roof surfaces with trapezoidal sheet metal, the proven BasicRail system was used, which can be installed particularly quickly and allows controlled linear expansion due to the floating bearing.

The substructure is thermally decoupled from the roof cladding - thus the two systems can expand differently and independently of each other and tensions are prevented.

The 14° pitched bitumen gable roof was again doubled up with welded-in Kerto planks on every second rafter. The K2 BasicRail was screwed onto this with wood screws and sealing washers, and the second layer of K2 SingleRail 50 was then fastened in a cross bond.

Note: The wood screws for fastening the K2 BasicRail should not be longer than the thickness of the Kerto planks.

On a total of 8 roof surfaces, the solar modules uniformly generate solar power, which the company uses directly for the operation of machines.

It took just 12 months from the start of planning to the realisation of the project. The planning software K2 Base determined the optimal utilisation, provided the static calculation as well as the assembly plan and issued the appropriate article list.

Climate positivity until  2030

Dr Bayaz, Minister of Finance of Baden-Württemberg, said: “Consistent climate protection makes ecological and economic sense. We can show this as an industrialised country – and thus become a role model for others. Rothaus is going down this path and has the full support of the state.”

Environmental and climate protection are essential components of Rothaus’ corporate philosophy. For several years now, the state brewery has been demonstrating how sustainable management and climate protection work. Now it is taking another step and implementing the first measures on its way to becoming climate-positive.

The 1.5 MWp system of the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG was inaugurated on 19 September 2022 by the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann.

“For this project, thanks to the high level of expertise of our own employees in combination with excellent external specialist companies, we needed just 12 months from planning to realisation. I am sure that we will achieve our goal of becoming climate-positive by 2030,” adds Christian Rasch, sole director of Rothaus AG.
